Helloooooooooo, and here we are, together again in my Untamed, Unexpected, Unforgettable world. How happy that makes me. I hope it does the same for you.

Three or more weeks before Valentine’s Day, hundreds of flights from Colombia and Ecuador delivered around 18,000 tons of flowers to the Florida hub in Miami this year. There were roses and carnations from Bogota; pompons, hydrangeas, and chrysanthemums from Medellin; and roses, carnations, and gypsophila from Quito to name just a few.

All in the name of love. Or lust. Or hopefulness.

UNTAMED!

But I reckon we should go back to basics. What happened to good old hand-holding?

It’s free, you won’t get hay fever and the experience will never wilt.

What a bond that special touch creates. I miss holding hands with my sweetheart. Throughout our marriage we’ve enjoyed hand-holding whether we were walking, watching a movie or sitting next to each other on the couch. Necessary ambulatory devices have nixed this pleasure, but writing this has ignited a passion to reintroduce this delight when we’re not on the go. Thank you, my friend, for generating this spark.

UNEXPECTED!

Studies show that holding hands not only reduces pain and buffers stressful experiences, but can limit the impact stress has on our autonomic nervous system, which regulates unconscious bodily functions such as pupil dilation. When people feel they are under threat, holding the hands of a loved one calms parts of the brain responsible for vigilance and emotional response. “If you really understand hand-holding — what it is and how it has its effects — you begin to understand just about every single facet of what it is to be a human being,” said James Coan, a clinical psychologist and director of the Virginia Affective Neuroscience Laboratory at the University of Virginia. “It expresses all the things that we are for each other.”

UNFORGETTABLE!

I asked a robot (Chat GPT) how it would characterize hand-holding. This is what it said:

“Hand-holding: It’s like sharing a secret handshake with the universe, a silent pact of love, trust, and connection. It’s the ultimate GPS for navigating life’s journey together—just with a lot more heart and a lot less recalculating.”

See? Even a robot knows  :o)  Cool and interesting, yes, but not unforgettable enough to leave you with today. But these animal hugs are. Enjoy a day’s worth of warm and fuzzies right here:
